Wagon Wheel Saloon Lake Tahoe Stickered Peace Dollar

Wagon Wheel Saloon Sticker Description
This sticker has red lettering with a gold background with a blue wagon wheel in the center. The sticker includes a small buffalo/steer skull with a small cactus. The wording on the coin reads: “I CAME FROM WAGON WHEEL SALOON * LAKE TAHOE * HIGHWAY 50 * STATE LINE NEVADA”

History
This coin dates from pre 1960. In researching this I found that the Wagon Wheel Saloon has been renamed 3 times. It is now called Harveys Lake Tahoe and is one of the largest landmarks in Lake Tahoe. From 1944 to shortly before 1960 the casino was named the Wagon Wheel Saloon. Here are the links to several great articles that you might be interested in reading (link, link, link). This coin is most likely from the early 1950s and would have been a souvenir in the gift shop.

This coin is highly collectable. It is not extremely rare, but it is uncommon to find one in good condition like the one pictured above. This coin can collect a premium if it is in good condition. The uniqueness of the sticker adds to its value and it is a coin any collector would like to have in his or her collection.

Margo’s Buckeye Roundup Sticker

About:
This coin is a common stickered dollar, but is one that most collectors want in their collection. I’ve seen these on both Peace and Morgan dollars. The sticker reads: “Margo’s Buckeye Roundup 2384 Lake BLVD.”, which is written in red lettering on a transparent sticker. When buying one of these I would recommend waiting to find one that has a sticker in good condition. It also helps to find a coin that does not have much wear. The coin below meets both of those conditions.
Note: One reason that most collectors like this sticker is because it is transparent. Only a small percentage of stickered dollars had transparent stickers.

History:
When I first purchased this coin I assumed it was a coin from Ohio, but after a few dead ends I found that this coin was from a Cardroom in Reading California. Margo’s Buckeye Roundup closed in 1966.

Note: This is a good example of a coin being rare, but the price not following. The lack of history with this coin hurts its value. This coin at auction could fetch a very large premium if the right bidders were involved. What is interesting about the sticker is that it is quite sticky, which I believe lends to its rarity. I believe most of these stickers were taken off and the coin cleaned because of how the sticker aged. This coin is sealed in an air tight holder which will keep this sticker permanently intact.

Blue 8 Petal Stickered Peace Dollar

About:
This stickered coin looks to be a slot machine payout coin for an unknown Casino. The image is either of a burst or flower pattern and has 8 petals. Judging by the sticker it looks to be from the 1950s or early 1960s.
This coin is in great condition and the sticker is completely intact. I own several of these and have seen a few show up on ebay. By far this stickered coin is in the best condition I have seen. Most of the coins I have seen have heavily warn stickers and coins from years of passing through slot machines.

Only a small percentage of stickered coins use a transparent sticker, which is one of the things that make this coin unique and highly collectible.

History:
Most likely a casino slot machine coin.

Lady Luck Sticker Dollars

About:
The Lady Luck stickered dollars are some of the most common coins that can be found. This is a common coin for those starting out their collection. I have seen these stickers in $2, $2.50, $3.00, $4.50 and $5.00 denominations. There most likely are more, which based on the dollar amount on the sticker would/could substantially add to the coins value.

These coins can have several different sticker variations. Some stickers have Las Vagas Nev on them where others leave out the location all together. The images below are a good example of what you might find.

History:
These coins were used by the Lady Luck Casino in slot machines as payout coins. They could then be exchanged for the dollar amount. Many visitors would keep these coins as a memento of their trip.
